This guide lists the printers, devices, and software required to run iCat effectively in the field and warehouse.

1. Pack-Out Label Printing (Barcodes / QR Labels)

Used to print Pack-Out Barcodes and Emergency Barcodes at the job intake stage.

Requirements

  • Laser printer (recommended for the cleanest barcode scans)

  • Inkjet acceptable on High Quality mode

  • Avery 8160 label sheets (standard 30-per-sheet)

What it’s used for

  • Printing pack-out labels for all boxes and large single items

  • Printing emergency barcode sheets kept in field vehicles

2. Pack-Back Label Printing (Warehouse – Cleaned Contents)

Used during cleaning, packaging, and returning contents to the homeowner.

Recommended Printer

  • Brother QL-810W (Wi-Fi)
or any Brother QL Series Wi-Fi printer with automatic cutting

Required Supplies

  • DK-2205 continuous label roll
(narrower roll helps reduce label costs)

Setup Summary

  • Connect printer to a computer for initial Wi-Fi setup

  • Install Brother P-Touch Editor to set label size 62 x31.8mm

  • Load DK-2205 roll

  • After setup, disconnect from computer

  • Place printer in a stable Wi-Fi area of your packaging/warehouse zone

3. Mobile Scanning (Built Into the App)

No external scanners are required.

The iCat Contractor App includes:

  • Built-in barcode/QR scanner

  • Built-in room sync tools

  • Built-in transfer and warehouse scanning workflows

This eliminates the need for handheld scanners.

4. Mobile Devices (iOS)

iCat field and warehouse operations require iOS devices.

Recommended

  • Latest entry-level iPhone from Apple

Supported

  • Any iPhone running iOS 13 or higher

  • Refurbished devices are acceptable

  • iPad supported (but not preferred for scanning workflows)

Connectivity

  • Wi-Fi works for most operations

  • Cellular is optional but helpful

  • Devices can operate offline and sync when reconnected

Install the App

Search on the App Store for:
“iCat Inventory – Contractor Edition”

5. Optional: AirPrint Printer

Used to print vault reports that show:

  • Which contents were placed into a vault/pallet

  • Their statuses

  • Summary of everything stored in that location

Helpful but not required for most daily operations.

6. Required Software (Office / Admin Use)

Google Chrome

  • Recommended browser for all iCat web features

  • Ensures proper barcode PDF generation

Adobe Reader

  • Must be set as the default PDF viewer

  • Required for printing Pack-Out barcodes correctly

  • Install the Adobe Reader Chrome Extension

Please ensure you make Adobe Reader your default PDF Viewer in Google Chrome. This is required to print pack-out barcodes.
